Boxing is a sport I would have never seen as a community of support. “I started boxing around three years ago. I started because I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. I had no intention of ever competing at the age of 40, but then my coach, friend, and inspiration on so many levels, Shane Swartz, asked if I would like to help raise money to help families currently fighting cancer.
I jumped at the chance, not knowing exactly what I was getting myself into. But let me tell you, the smiles made it all worth it and made me want to start competing. Since I started boxing, I have reversed my diabetes, continue to work on my sobriety, and have built better relationships with my kids and grandkids. Some of my greatest accomplishments in life are competing in two of Shane's fundraisers.
I had my two first fights in Las Vegas at the age of 43 years old. I also had my first plane ride going to Nashville, TN to box. Boxing has saved my life in so many ways and showed me a new way of life. It has made me a better man. It's so much more than a boxing gym, it changes lives.”
